Melissa Miller, Ph.D., D(ABMM), FAAM, is a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She is also the Director of the Clinical ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ and Molecular ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Laboratories for UNC Medical Center.
Miller received her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Princeton University and completed the medical and public health microbiology fellowship at UNC hospitals. She is the Chair of the American Society for ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Clinical and Public Health ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Committee, a fellow of the American Academy of ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ and an Editor for the Journal of Clinical ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥.
Miller’s research interests include the development of accurate and cost-effective molecular tests for viral infections and the assessment of patient and healthcare outcomes associated with the implementation of new molecular technologies. She received the 2021 ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Award for Research and Leadership in Clinical ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ and was a co-recipient of the 2021 ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Special Recognition Award for leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. Miller is also the recipient of the N.C. Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service, which is the highest honor a state employee can receive for dedicated service to the state and its citizens.
