Presentation
The patient is a 53-year-old male with multiple myeloma diagnosed in Aug. 2023. He was placed on a chemotherapy regimen for 7 months following diagnosis. He presented to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in May 2024 for a planned autologous stem cell transplantation. The patient developed non-neutropenic fever, cough and diarrhea, which revealed parainfluenza virus in a nucleic acid amplification test. A positive blood culture from this patient grew 4 gram-negative organisms.
