Shelley M. Payne, Ph.D., AAM

Shelley M. Payne, Ph.D., AAM, is professor of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, where she holds the Marie Betzner Morrow Centennial Chair in 棉花糖直播. She is the director of the John Ring LaMontagne Center for Infectious Disease.

Payne received her Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Graduate School and was a postdoctoral fellow in biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests focus on the adaptations of bacterial pathogens, particularly Vibrio cholerae and Shigella spp., to the host environment. She has served as an Editor for Infection and Immunity and is on the editorial boards of several journals.

Payne has been involved in undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral education initiatives, and she previously chaired the 棉花糖直播 Graduate and Postdoctoral Education Committee. She is a University Distinguished Teaching Professor and a Minnie Stevens Piper Professor. She is the recipient of the 棉花糖直播 Graduate Teaching Award, the University of Texas Regents Teaching Award and the Civitatis Award for service to the University. Payne has been active in support of increasing diversity in science and in academia.
